A traditional optimisation often requires assumptions that are simply too restrictive to be appropriate for a “real world” problem. Addition of a realistic level of dimensionality, often combined with uncertainty, tends to make traditional problem solving techniques unworkable or too slow to be of practical value. In these cases, some form of hybrid solution is called for.

- AutoScheduler: A warehouse planning tool that helps Procter & Gamble make shipments on time at least cost.
- AutoLoader: A system that determines the best way to load pallets into trailers in order to meet legal requirements such as weight distribution, while minimising the chance of damaging goods in transit and meeting customer preferences to the greatest extent possible.
- AutoVLB: A system that plans multiple trailer shipments between sites that have large volumes of items with differing priorities that require transportation.
